It's an expensive event, add in accomodation, travel, kit etc then the costs are pretty huge. Is it worth it? Well the whole razzamataz, the after event food, showers, t-shirt, etc etc is second to none. Obviously the license and kona slots adds to the price but I thik its worth it. If you wanted to do 2 or 3 of these a year then the cost would be pretty restrictive though.

I'd be p'd off if I went to an official IM event and didn't get that kind of excellent organisation.

I think the price is pretty fair, In addition to all the things that come with the race, the expo, and the 3 or 4 days woth of activities, its also important to remember that the cheaper it is the more people will sign up, and its already tough enough to get into most races. With the limitation on the number of people per race, and the limited number of races I think its pleanty fair.

I think the price of Ironman is about right but i have just looked at doing the 70.3 in Monaco and thats way over priced 300 euro for a half ironman distance. I know that for my first shot at long ditance i wanted it to be a licenced ironman but now that the first is out of the way i am happy to do some of the non ironman tagged races.

With only having raced Coeur D'Alene IM, I would say the price is worth it. They don't have races like that in Edmonton, not by a long shot. Even if I found out my money just paid for the volunteer party, I'd be ok with that. Keep up with the great show guys, I really enjoy it on the long runs. Regards from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

I think that you are now paying for the Ironman label. If it costs so much to put on an Ironman distance race, why are all the non WTC events cheaper?

My first Iron distance race was The Longest day (UK 2004) it cost half of what IMUK has cost me to enter.

I will pony up the funds for a WTC event to see if it is all worth it, but next year I am doing Roth as it has the best reputation in Europe, 120,000 fans on the course!!

Steleo

I think it is the right price. I competed in OZ IM 2001 and even though I thought the cost was initially expensive, Once I experienced a WTC run event I thought the service was second to none and the price justified.
